Managing stress and creating positive habits

A little pressure at work can help you, it can keep you on your toes and moving forward on tasks. It can make you meet deadlines and perform to a high level. However, too much stress can affect your work performance, health or personal life.

If you have noticed your stress levels at work increasing, you may be experiencing anxiety, negative thinking, overwhelm, withdrawal, irritability, problems sleeping or trouble concentrating.

Common workplace stress triggers are: lack of autonomy, job insecurity, tight deadlines, high demands, changes to management, lack of support and communication issues.

Read my blog on ‘How to tackle stress’ for some practical tips on reducing stress and creating positive habits.

Working with me as your careers coach could help you think about the changes you need to make to reduce your stress levels and create an action plan for creating positive habits.

How to create positive habits

Through powerful questioning and coaching tools we will....

  • Explore thought patterns and negative thinking traps and learn to reframe to a positive outlook

  • Learn the difference between the levels of stress that push you forwards and those that hold you back

  • Examine the impact to your mind and body when you're feeling under pressure and implement tools and techniques to relieve pressure

  • Strategise non-negotiable daily habits to improve your well-being and create positive habits

  • Map out your support network to energise you

  • Address your fears and explore stepping out of your comfort zone in a safe and controlled way

Using coaching to manage stress can positively influence your mental and physical health, increase your productivity and give you more job satisfaction.

Stress coaching techniques can help to:

  • Identify your key stress triggers

  • Build your confidence for challenging situations

  • Create a plan for better work-life balance

  • Develop your skills for better time management

  • Build your emotional resilience

  • Create a positive mindset

  • Work on perfectionism and controlling habits

  • Identify your positive enablers

Everyone responds differently to stress, some people experience panic and anxiety, others experience tiredness, insomnia or anger. If you think you might be suffering from stress, asking yourself these simple coaching questions can help to identify why, where, when and how you are experiencing it:

  • What emotions do you associate with being stressed? How would you describe them in your own words?

  • When do you notice these emotions appearing?

  • How often are you experiencing these emotions?

  • If you could wake up tomorrow morning and overnight a miracle had occurred to resolve the source of your stress, what would be different in your life?
