40 Career Coaching Questions [+PDF]

Being a coach means asking A LOT of questions.

If you have ever experienced coaching before you might remember that ‘huh?’ moment, when you realised that your coach wasn’t handing you answers to all of life’s problems, but instead guiding you towards finding your own solutions.

Powerful coaching questions are one of the most important tools in coaching, because they help your coach to raise your self-awareness, identify your values, encourage reflection, spot goals and desired outcomes and hold you accountable for taking positive action.

The questions I ask in a 1-2-1 coaching session are always tailored to the individual client’s needs, challenges and situation. But generic coaching questions can still have value - particularly for experimenting with whether a coaching approach could help you to find the change you need or to reach your next step.

If you’re feeling stuck in your job or unsure about the future of your career, then my 40 Coaching Questions for Career Clarity and Confidence could help you to unlock your thinking and find a more positive mindset.
